The Somethin' Else Big Band

Formed in 2011 The Somethin’ Else Big Band was the brain child of sax man Neil Clift. The nucleus of the band included the prodigiously talented Ford brothers, Graham 'the fixer' Varley, Trombone master Roland Knight and 'our man in Merrow' - the long, tall Sam Parker.

Based in Guildford, Surrey, and led by Chris Green (MD), the 2024 edition is powered by the steaming rhythm section of bassist Marianne Windham (of Guildford Jazz), Dave Evetts (drums), Ed Kinsella (piano), and David Ward (guitar).

Equally at home with the classic arrangements of Nestico and Hefti to the more contemporary and often latin-tinged charts of Martin and Tomaro the SEBB regularly gig around the area. They have opened the Wood Street Jazz Festival for many years, featuring a number of guest stars including legendary bassist Andy Cleyndert, the innovative and exciting Byron Wallen on trumpet, multi award-winning guitarist Nigel Price, flautist and big band master Gareth Lockrane, and guest vocalists Georgia Mancio and Peter Jones.
